Turkey Update

With the frosts starting to the kill the grass, and all the posturing by the males starting up, Dan is counting down the days to move the turkeys indoors.  They don't like the rain and are staying inside their coop.

A brief sunny day before the torrential rains.
We have prepared a separate pen for the males, to prevent them from leaving "breeding marks" - slashes in the skin - of the females.   Lesson learned from last year.

They are eating grain from the farm and apples from a local orchard, transitioning away from the expensive commercial feed that they no longer need, now that they are mature.  Corn and apples are what the wild birds are eating; we see them all over Highgate in the fields.
