A Dozen a Day

At the last egg update, we had over 80 laying hens and were gathering 6 to 8 eggs a day. After a generous culling, we have 26 handpicked layers left. They are giving over 12 eggs per day, and most are jumbos.

Why 26, when I previously reported we had set aside 24? Because two simply would not be caught for processing as stewing hens, and as it has worked out, at least one of them is laying green eggs (they are Araucanas). Plus, we have a new gorgeous rooster to adore, an ornamental breed called Buttercup. So it's all good.
