Breakfast at Sneakers

It's is a trio of Benedicts from Sneakers restaurant in Winooski.  From left to right: at the top, a  potato cake with their own smoked salmon and hollandaise, a fried chicken cutlet topped with sausage cream gravy, and a black bean cake topped with a fresh tomato and tomatillo/cilantro salsa.  This was Dan's breakfast last Saturday - one he recommends emphatically and counts among the best and most memorable food experiences of his life.

I've never taken a photo of restaurant food,  A: because I'm not good at it, and B: because the flash is distracting for other guests -  but I absolutely had to make a spectacle of myself and document his breakfast last Saturday.

This is my breakfast; It's just plain fruit - and there was a grapefruit mimosa, too.

And then there was the Bloody Mary that Dan chose for his celebratory drink (this was the last winter delivery to Burlington before farmer's market starts).  It was clean flavored, spicy, balanced and refreshing.  I know this because he offered me a sip.  Sadly, there was hidden wheat in there somewhere.  Soy sauce? The spice blend's non-caking agent?  Cross contamination? Who knows?

The only thing I am certain of was that I had a positive allergic reaction for wheat, and since I eat the same (safe) thing every time, chances are his drink was the culprit.  Ah well.  That won't stop me from eating at this wonderful restaurant - but I won't get to do it again until next November, because our ritual is to dine here when we do Winter deliveries to South Burlington, once a month, for six months, from November to April.
