Tire piles inspire


Remember the corn pile being filled with the harvest? If not, scroll down the page and take a look at the video. The silage was compacted by the tractor, covered in 50' by 150' pieces of plastic and thousands of tires. We have estimated that about 10,000 old car tires are being re-used as part of our feed storage system. Most of this corn will be sold to other dairy farmers. (Dan is standing at the top of the grain bin to take these photos).

Here's a photo of a smaller, hay silage bunker. The tires here look like licorice Froot Loops in milk. Our tire storage system (very low tech). Another bunker stands ready to be filled.
