Around 7:00 a.m. this morning the power went out. Dan hooked up the generator to finish milking, and we went to a diner for breakfast in the next town so we wouldn't have to eat at home in the dark.
At 9:30, the power came back on, but it brought back memories of the ice storm, and that we had told ourselves back then that one generator was not enough to rely on for two barns, a milking parlor, and three homes. Our home provides all the water for the barns (livestock and wash water), the parlor sides are air curtains that fall down without squirrel fans to power them, there's milk in the tank to keep cool, and we currently have baby chicks to keep warm.
He's already gone to O.C. McCuin's store to see if they have the size generator we need. No sense in putting it off any longer.
