Forgive me, April Cornell!

For the past nine years our farmers' market table has had the same blue skirting. A variety of tablecloths and placemats have been utilized to cover burns, tears and re-stitching. It's time for a change.

I was fortunate to find a periwinkle and green apple-colored tablecloth at TJ Maxx, and matching material at Joann's Fabric, all for under $50. I normally wouldn't mention the price, but I thought this project would run $90-$120 which is why I have procrastinated for so long.

I set up our L-shaped market stand in the kitchen and draped the fabric over it. No measuring or patterns - just swearing, cutting, sewing and adjusting as I go.

Fitted and hemmed, like a prom dress on a Tetris piece.

(My assistant, she knocked the whole thing to the ground because it was just taking too long.)

Sadly, the tablecloth was far too large. In order for it to look pretty and cover both sides, I had to cut it into pieces.

(Forgive me, April Cornell!)

Project, completed - when the new tent arrives, I can count myself 100% ready for the 2009 market season.
