This is the first time these birds have been outside; they were born at the hatchery, mailed here in a box, and raised to this age inside a barn. Two hours after being put on pasture the weather changed, it got dark, cold, and it rained. As darkness fell today I realized that they had never experienced a lack of light, being under the florescent bulbs all their life. They kind of milled around instead of going back inside the coop. If we had kept some older chickens from previous years they would have had practical guidance on where to go and what to do.
