When the laying hens were moved from their winter home in the barn to their summer home on pasture, two of our three roosters were left behind to rule the youngstock dairy barn. "Black" and "Black and White" are free to roam the place - but be wary, if they don't like the looks of you, they can give major attitude.
They have a purpose besides defending the roost. They eat spilled feed from the calves and pigs that would otherwise go to waste, and in addition to the semi-feral cats do a good job taking care of mice in a "green" manner.
